Vantages of Content Management Systems

CMS offer several vantages when they are used to create and – especially – to administer websites, compared with other avail-able HTML editors used by web designers, advertising agencies and system vendors. We would like to present those vantages in the following

While many small and medium sized companies in the past years were pre-sent in the WWW only with a few sta-tic pages, designed once and for all, in many big companies the total num-ber of pages per web presence increased steadily in the past years. This trend will continue and in-crease even faster over the next years as web presences are growing more complex. In the future there will be the need to present complete and elaborate product information, partner and support contents on the web as well as on other media, also for small and medium sized companies. Therefore it is necessary to think about the administration of these contents and information, in order to de-sign the information itself as well as the access to it, as efficient as possible.

With an increasing number of information pages in total, the effort of creating those pages manually by using HTML editors, increases significantly as well: Menus, internal link refers, schematic pages, indices as well as many other pages and information must be administered, adapt-ed and updated, constantly. In case a website is republished, the effort is very serious: each and every information page must be adapted, i. e. processed. If this is done manually, the effort increases exponential to the total number of pages.

In the beginning of your work with a CMS that is based on the separation of contents, structures, layout and design, the initial effort to create universal templates is quite big, but the total effort decreases significantly. In case of very big websites, the potential of savings in total is pretty enormous. Realizing and administering big web presences even becomes possib-le through the use of CMS only.

Since we are convinced that also small and medium sized companies will have increasing numbers of information pages in the future, CMS will become useful or even necessary to those companies, too.
