Installation of the Portalsuite Spooler

The Portalsuite spooler is a programme script which fulfils regular clearance in the background: e. g., sorting expired articles into the archive, checking uplink and downlink ports.

Therefore the Portalsuite spooler can fulfil its tasks regularly, it has to be started regularly. The spooler is located in the Portalsuite directory „/spooler/soft/“ and is called „spooler.php“.

The spooler can be called either via the domain resp. the IP address of the Portalsuite 2002 per web browser manually or automatically, or from out off the console again manually or automatically. Basically we recommend to start the spooler with the console – for larger installations exclusively, since in case of a call per web address normally there is a timeout defined and the execution is aborted when it has been attained. Yet, in case of larger installations the spooler process may take some time.

For the call per console you need a PHP version which has been compiled as CGI and not as module. Simply call the php-executable with the spooler („spooler.php“) as parameter and it will get active (e. g.: „ ./php spooler.php“).
For automation simply enter the command line into the crontab (e. g.: in 5 or 10 minute cycle).
