Uplink Ports

In order to send news from a server portal you need an uplink port.

Please note that the uplink ports are only available in the Enterprise version. Settings regarding networking are defined in the Administration Center and are summarized in the menu’s networking icon.

After selecting the networking icon in the menu you get a brief overview on the different networking components (uplink ports, downlink ports etc.). Select „Uplink ports“ here and in the overview area on the left appears a list of all uplink ports which already have been applied, as well as an option to apply a new one. If an existing uplink port is selected for editing or the new-function is selected, the edit-dialog appears in the middle.

Each uplink port has got a name by which it – for instance – can be addressed by the „Portalsuite Objects“ later. In other respects the names of the uplink ports do not play a major role and also serves your information firstly. Therefore a port is actually active, it has to be activated. If a port is not activated, it is not used for sending articles. For instance, ports can be deactivated temporarily with the activation flag.
In the block „transmission medium and parameter“ please choose between the two media „e-mail“ and „http“ first. If you choose „e-mail“ the article text is sent to one or several e-mail addresses per e-mail, if you choose „http“ the Portalsuite establishes a connection via „http“ web protocol on port 80 to the target portal and transmits the data with a simulated virtual form (transfer of article data per „post“-request). In case of the e-mail procedure e-mails are transmitted to an e-mail inbox (POP3) along with the data and have to be collected from the target portal (see downlink ports). Besides the transmission format you have to specify one or several normal mail addresses. Another interesting option is to send the mail in the ASCII format to an auxiliary address and again let this auxiliary address be prompted by the mailing list-newsletter add-on and then to distribute the ASCII mail via the newsletter. This results in some further interesting aspects. In case of the http procedure the import takes place immediately during the contact is established. You have to specify a list of URLs of websites / portals. Here the URL refers to the address under which the target website / the target portal is published on the internet / intranet and not to the installation (Content Manager / Admin Center...) of the target Portalsuite. You do not have to address PHP files with the URL. Since the target website / target portal is protected by password (e. g.: „.htaccess“ in case of the Apache web server) you can specify a login name and login code for authentication. As last information you need the name of the downlink port for successful http transmission. The name of the downlink ports has to match exactly!

In order to avoid any misuse of these technologies you can specify a password in the downlink port. If such a password is defined, news are only imported if a password has been sent together with the news and if this password matches the deposited password. There is an option to define a password in the block „port authentication“ in order to send news including a password.

You should also define which articles are sent automatically via the uplink port in the block article filter. We recommend hereby to use the field „category“ as main criterion, as the case may be in combination with the activation flag.
