Downlink Ports
You need a downlink port to receive news from a server portal.
The downlink ports are already available in the light version but provide several more options and parameters in the Advanced and higher versions. The settings regarding networking are set in the Administration Center and are summarised under the networking icon in the menu.
After selecting the networking icon in the menu you get a brief overview on the various networking modules (uplink ports, downlink ports etc.). Select „downlink ports“ here and a list of all downlink ports, which have already been applied, appears on the left as well as an option to apply a new one. In case an existing downlink port is selected for editing or the new function is selected, the edit-dialog appears in the middle.
Each downlink port has got a name by which it can – for instance - be addressed by the “Portalsuite Objects“ and by the uplink ports later. The name of a downlink port plays an important role especially for the addressing in the http transmission process. Besides the name is also intended for your information. You can define one or several e-mail addresses already in the first block (separated by commas). The Portalsuite sends an notification mail to the specified addresses if articles come in via this downlink port. Therefore a port is actually active, it has to be activated. If a port is not activated, it is not used for receiving articles. For instance, ports can be deactivated temporarily with the activation flag.
In order to avoid that everybody could include news via this downlink port as one likes, there are different possibilities to protect the downlink port. The block „Authentication“ is intended to define a password for downlink ports as well as allowed sender addresses. If you define a password here, the incoming news have to include this exact password, otherwise the data import does not take place. If you do not want any authentication by password, you can simply leave this field empty. If you choose the e-mail procedure as transmission medium, the sender address can be validated in addition. Simply specify a comma-separated list of allowed mail addresses. If the mail address does not match, the transmitted data are not imported. Please note that the authentication per mail address does not represent a complete protection since mail addresses can be forged easily.
In so far as you use the mail procedure as transmission medium, e-mails are transferred to a mail inbox (POP3 inbox) first, including the data. The downlink port has to check regularly if new mails came in to process them. The downlink port hereto needs the data of the mail inbox (POP3 server name, login name and password for access).
In the remaining blocks you can define different parameters which determine how to process incoming article texts. For instance you can allocate incoming article texts to one or several categories automatically or activate them automatically, overwrite the target priority as well as reset / overwrite the release and expiry date.
