Views and Dummy Objects

Portals built with Portalsuite Objects consist of objects of the type "view" or of the type "dummy objects".

Views

A view is an element of a HTML page which consists of several HTML tags. That means, a view always appears in some way on the user’s screen, i. e., in the web browser. Article data, search wizards, menus etc. - they are views. They can be rectangular, round, possibly they have the width of one column or have different heights or take up the whole visible expanse of the browser. Several views can build complex units together, for example links in an article, a. o. such an unit is also called views group. Again this group itself is a single view.

Dummy Objects

All objects which are no views, are dummy objects. Dummy objects are not allowed to execute outputs. PUser or PCategory are examples for dummy objects. Dummy objects are productive objects, because they execute calculations, communicate or compound other tasks.

If a dummy object has to execute an output, it has to do so through a view object. Only view objects are allowed to execute an output!

Of course nobody could deter you from realizing an output in a derived object with the PHP function echo - but you should not use this option since Portalsuite objects know nothing about such tributary outputs and therefore they are not considered.
