Information on new versions, update versions and their qualification

Portunity is advancing the Portalsuite permanently. We publish new versions here (see below) from time to time. In doing so we differentiate between:

  • Stable versions
These are versions for productive use, which have passed the Portunity-internal and the public test stages. Portunity publishes a new "stable version" only in case that no errors are known at all at the time of publishing and all features, functions as well as included corrections have been approved by minimum a second programmer from our quality assurance department.
  • Bug fix versions (Patches)
If serious errors become known short after publishing of a stable version, especially errors, which impede the use of the Portalsuite completely, constitute a serious security breach or simply constitute a large quantity of errors, a bug fix (patch) is published.

Bug fix versions are especially marked in the version identifier with the identification code PL (patch level) followed by a number of the bug fix.
  • Release Candidates
If one or more new features and functionalities (and of course also bug fixes) have been integrated into the Portalsuite by our developers, there is firstly minimum one public test version of the new version after our internal tests. This allows you to evaluate new functions early and allows us to consider feedback as soon as possible in developing and to detect errors quickly. Therefore Release Candidates are a vital part of Portunity’s quality assurance and of our product philosophy.

Release Candidates are marked in the version identifier by the identification code RC followed by the number of the test version and should, as far as possible, not be used in productive environments. Portunity assumes no liability in any way for functions and errors in Release Candidates – basically the use takes place at one’s own risk. For this reason Release Candidates are only available as update.

We hope to have found a transparent handling with this norm for new versions.

Download the ZIP or tar.gz file now and copy it into the root directory of your existing Portalsuite 2002 installation afterwards. You find a specific instruction for installation of updates in the user manual chapter 4. Please do unconditionally attend the hints given there. We strongly recommend to save the Portalsuite-directory and the data base before unpacking and updating the data base, in case that something goes wrong.
